General Motors unveiled the redesigned versions of its entry-level GMC Terrain crossover, showcasing a new standard “Elevation” model. This compact crossover boasts a more rugged exterior design, along with a revamped interior featuring an impressive 26 inches of screens. The centerpiece is a 15-inch center touchscreen, complemented by an 11-inch driver information cluster. These screens are part of a suite of new standard safety and convenience features for the vehicle, including adaptive cruise control, front heated seats, and enhanced automatic emergency braking. In addition, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard, offering seamless integration of phone apps for navigation and music.

With the introduction of the redesigned Terrain, General Motors is streamlining the model lineup by consolidating the “SLE” and “SLT” entry-level trims into the Elevation model. This move aligns with the brand’s strategy of using the Elevation trim across multiple vehicles. While specific pricing details have not been disclosed yet, the new Terrain is anticipated to start appearing in GMC showrooms towards the end of the year. Current starting prices for the Terrain range from approximately $30,000 to $40,000.

The Elevation trim will be the first to debut, followed by the off-road-inspired AT4 and the luxury Denali models. The Terrain has historically been one of GMC’s top-selling non-truck nameplates, catering to a wide range of customers from compact crossover enthusiasts to buyers looking for larger trucks and SUVs, including the GMC Hummer EVs. Production of the Terrain takes place in Mexico, and sales have shown promising growth, with a 31% year-over-year increase in the first half of the year following a 17% decline in 2023.

Overall, the redesigned GMC Terrain crossover represents a bold step forward for General Motors, blending rugged design elements with cutting-edge technology and enhanced safety features. The consolidation of trims into the Elevation model aims to simplify the buying process for customers while maintaining a competitive pricing structure. As the Terrain prepares to hit showrooms later this year, it is poised to make a significant impact in the compact crossover segment and further strengthen GMC’s position in the automotive market.
