Porsche has recently unveiled the first-ever production hybrid version of its iconic 911 sports car, the 2025 911 Carrera GTS hybrid, with a starting price of $164,900. This marks a significant shift for the German automaker as the industry focuses on electrification and fuel economy improvements.

The new 911 Carrera GTS features a unique hybrid powertrain that has been finely tuned to preserve the vehicle’s renowned driving dynamics. With a newly developed 3.6-liter boxer hybrid engine, the car can generate an impressive 532 horsepower and 449 foot-pounds of torque.

The 911 Carrera GTS hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than the non-hybrid GTS model. It also boasts a top track speed of 194 mph. The coupe version starts at $164,900, while the convertible variant is priced at $178,200.

Customers can now place orders for the hybrid models, with deliveries expected to U.S. dealers by the end of 2024. The lineup includes both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations to cater to various preferences and driving conditions.

Porsche’s decision to introduce hybrid vehicles aligns with its overall electrification strategy, which aims to have at least 80% of its global vehicle sales be partially or fully electric by 2030. The company currently offers a range of plug-in hybrid Cayenne and Panamera models, as well as all-electric Taycan models.

The reveal of the hybrid model coincided with the announcement of updates to the 2025 Porsche 911 sports cars. The lineup includes enhancements to both exterior and interior designs, improved engine performance, and upgraded standard equipment such as rear-axle steering for enhanced stability.

Despite the challenging market conditions, Porsche reported first-quarter global sales of 77,640 vehicles, a slight decrease from the previous year. However, sales of the 911 vehicles in the U.S. saw a notable increase of 30% compared to the same period in 2023.

The introduction of the hybrid 911 Carrera GTS represents a significant milestone for Porsche as it navigates the evolving automotive landscape. By combining electrification with the brand’s heritage of performance and luxury, Porsche is setting the stage for a successful transition to a more sustainable future.
