The highly anticipated boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul scheduled for this summer has already sparked a surge in ticket prices and piqued the interest of avid bettors. The event, set to take place on July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and will be live-streamed globally on Netflix, is projected to become the year’s most heavily bet on boxing match. Fans are eagerly anticipating the face-off between the 58-year-old former heavyweight champion Tyson and the 27-year-old social media influencer turned boxer, Paul.

The battle between Tyson and Paul will be sanctioned as a professional bout and will consist of 8 rounds, lasting two minutes each. Tyson’s last professional fight was in 2005, although he participated in an exhibition match in 2020. Additionally, the event will also showcase a fight between lightweight world champion Katie Taylor and unified featherweight champion Amanda Serrano. Both fighters previously made history by headlining the first-ever sold-out women’s boxing event at Madison Square Garden.

Most Valuable Promotions, the company co-owned by Paul that is promoting the event, has reported over 121,000 fans signing up for presale access. Official ticket sales are set to begin next Thursday. The company has introduced a $2 million VIP package, including unprecedented perks such as two ringside seats, four first-row floor seats, a pre-fight locker room photo opportunity with Tyson and Paul, signed gloves from both fighters, and a two-night luxury penthouse stay at the fighters’ hotel.

Increasing Interest in Boxing and Betting Activity

Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of MVP, expressed a desire to revitalize boxing by bringing back tremendous exposure through this exceptional event. The relatively high cost of the VIP package has prompted the release of ticket prices on secondary market sites like Gametime. Presently, the least expensive tickets are priced at $357 each, while ringside seats are being sold for $8,067 each.

BetMGM is already accepting bets for the fight, with odds favoring Jake Paul as the current favorite (-145). Interestingly, despite the odds, 70% of bets are being placed on Tyson. Alex Rella, senior trader at BetMGM, predicts that the fight will appeal to a broad range of audiences, including Tyson supporters, Jake Paul detractors, and casual sports fans. Rella has high expectations for the match, anticipating it to be the most wagered-on boxing event of the year.

The financial terms of the fight and the specifics of Netflix’s agreement have yet to be disclosed. Netflix will broadcast the bout to all subscribers at no additional charge, reinforcing the streaming giant’s foray into live sports coverage. Bidarian has hinted at the substantial earnings both Tyson and Paul are set to receive, aiming for the event to become the most viewed streaming sports event in the United States.

The forthcoming showdown between Tyson and Paul has generated unprecedented buzz within the boxing community and beyond. With escalating ticket prices, enthusiastic fan engagement, and a flurry of betting activity, the fight promises to be a monumental event that captures the attention of a diverse audience. As anticipation builds, all eyes are on Arlington, Texas, for what could potentially be a historic moment in boxing history.
